Managed or Unmanaged Service.

A VPS is very flexible and can be configured in many ways to suite many purposes. Basic system administration skills are required to manage a VPS, however if you wish to enjoy the benefits without having to manage the server yourself we can offer this service for  you. We can also assist you with basic tasks such as how to firewall your VPS Servers and how to keep your VPS Servers up to date.

Kernel Patches - KSplice

Our Virtualization layer operates at a software level and each hardware node has only one kernel.  BIG Plans Web ensures that the Virtuozzo Kernel is always kept up to date using KSplice, a technology that allows us to update the running kernel without requiring a restart. This allows us provide you with high uptime. However, any applications installed on your VPS Servers are the responsibility of the customer.  For pre-configured application your Control Panel allows you a single click upgrade option whenever newer application versions are released.

Hardware Node Specifications

BIG Plans Web only use high-quality industry-recognized server brand hardware. Our hardware nodes' minimum specification is a Dual Intel Xeon E56xx series Quad Core CPU, 48-72GB RAM, 4-8 SAS 15k RPM drives in RAID10 (redundant and very high performing) using redundantly powered dual-PSUs on a gigabit network.

Backups

We provide you with the tools to backup or snapshot your VPS and all VPS plans include allocated backup server space. Your Control Panel provides you with a facility to initiate backups to one of our online backup servers but you should also periodically download and keep a copy offsite. VPS backups remain the responsibility of the customer.  We also offer a managed backup service, please contact sales if you wish to take advantage of this service.
